Would "Polio" be a Contra-Indication for massage?
Q. I think it would be a contra-indication to have a client receive a massage who had polio since in my research for my paper it's definition is "infectious viral disease". So my thought is that is should be approved from a doctor or licensed health professional to receive a massage. . .but please let me know what you think??? If they're are any doctors or nurses or other health realted professionals in here please help!!! I would greatly appreciate it! thanks kristin!
Asked by Kristin C - Fri Jan 26 18:25:56 2007 - Infectious Diseases - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Is this an active case? If so, it is a contraindication. If it is someone who had polio long ago then it is no problem to massage.

Why would a man ask for a "happy ending" aka hand job during a massage when I gave no inclination I offer that?

A. Hi there, I do sympathise with you, I know exactly what you mean. I used to get asked on the telephone what extras I supplied when they rang for an appointment. I could have understood more it if I was working from a room in my home or I was mobile, but I wasn't, I actually had a therapy and new age business in a retail outlet at the time. I think it is because so many of these 'parlours' masquerade as professional massage/treatment rooms so they don't get into trouble. Take care and keep yourself safe, I wish you a beautiful, and happy, future. Good luck :-) :-)

How will the new "health care reform" placed in the stimulus bill affect alternative medicine?
Q. The proposed health care reform will define which doctors are "meaningful users" of the system, and I was wondering if alternative health care providers (chiropractors, massage therapists, etc) will be considered "meaningful users".
Asked by xanadeu - Wed Feb 11 12:32:28 2009 - Law & Ethics - 2 Answers - Comments

A. The proposed "Health Care Reform" included in the stimulus is designed to do one thing: allow the government to decide who lives and who dies in order to "boost efficiency".

Is it illegal for a sergeant to search a home after an "equipment" check?
Q. Our house is a little bit messy, and I'm in the military. I was bringing out my equipment for an inspection and the sergeant looks around, seeing the mess, and then continues to look around the rest of the place. He goes into my bedroom and then he asks for a house inspection Monday to see if it's "healthy" or not. Also, the sergeant just reviewed it Wednesday, but he was only there for an equipment check, but never checked the equipment and looked around our house without permission.

A. If you live on-post, no, it's not illegal --- AR 210-50. That house doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the government. Moreover, your NCO is trying to take care of you. I can't tell you how many homes I've inspected that have been so "unsanitary" I wanted to vomit. If you live on post, they don't need permission to inspect your home. You invited him in --- did you not think he would look around? He can't legally rifle through your personal effects, but he can make the determination that you need to be monitored --- and enforce it. I promise you, he will have command backing on this. If you live off-post, they are not allowed to come into your home without permission or MP escort --- and then only with reason. However, if they… [cont.]

What are "herbal" cigarettes made of and what is the difference on their impact on your health?
Q. A friend recently started smoking what she calls "herbal cigarettes". She tells me they are completely harmless, and only smokes them when she's nervous. I know they aren't marijuana because they don't smell the same (I have some crazy neighbors, so I'd know) but they don't look the same as regular cigarettes (they don't have the orange filter) and she says they aren't tobacco/nicotine. What are they? and I KNOW they can't possibly be completely harmless. So what is the difference between a herbal cigarette and a regular cigarette, particular as far as impact on health?
Asked by Monty - Tue Nov 22 00:11:55 2011 - Other - Health - 1 Answers - Comments

A. they are still harmful. All the most harmful chemicals in cigarettes occur when burning the leaves. So even tho its not tobacco, its still producing those toxic chemicals while burning. The only advantage to smoking herbal cigarettes is that they dont contain the nicotine. Nicotine in itself wont kill u but its what keeps u addicted. But u could effectively smoke cat nip and still get lung cancer and/or other ailments.

Anyone else with a "terminal cancer" notice that there are others dying all around you in perfect health?
Q. I have seen so many people, young and old, just die for many reasons no one expected. Everyone has expected me to die with this "terminal cancer" but I keep going, in relatively good health and get around without a problem. I keep taking chemo every 3 weeks with an occasional break and even this chemo isn't as hard as the others. But my blood work is perfect every week and I don't seem to have any problems and I have been told I am terminal for several years.
Asked by - Wed Jun 22 04:02:22 2011 - Cancer - 5 Answers - Comments

A. I've been told my cancer will eventually kill me. You aren't told you are terminal until chemo stops working and your cancer keeps progressing. When one is actually deemed terminal, it will be a matter of months or weeks until you pass. I've seen people dying "around me" of the same cancer I was diagnosed with. During my treatments, my blood work was always perfect also. My chemo was a piece of cake and even radiation wasn't so bad. I have not been deemed terminal, however... What are you being treated for, if we may ask??

What's the difference between "Clinical Research Administration" and " MBA in health care"?
Q. There are lot of university that present MBA in health care, however "Clinical Research Administration"is presented just in several universities. I want to know more about difference. I have BS in pharmacy. which one do you advise to get as MS?
Asked by desmond - Wed Aug 19 03:34:09 2009 - Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Clinical Research is exactly what it says. The MBA in health care is geared towards business management/administration. I have a BS in Health Care Administration and am the graduate program I'm doing is an MBA with health care emphasis. If you have a BS in pharmacy, why don't you just go to pharm school? This is total speculation, but if you have a pharmacy degree you'd probably be more interested in clinical research admin, but that's probably something you should discuss with your academic adviser and not random people on the interwebs.

How much will taxes increase if "Free" health care is passed?
Q. How much will tax increase about and if it is, when will it be finalized? And what are your opinions about all of it? I don't see how it is fair for me to pay so that "Stinky" the hobo can get health care. A. Who knows what they changed or cobbled up at the last minute, but when I read through either the senate bill or what was proposed this weekend, I saw something about a 3.8% tax (maybe bumping up medicare tax?). You know that when they call such an expensive bill "deficit neutral" that it involves tax increases for someone, which trickles down to all of us.

Why "significant others" can be included on the partners health insurance, but my daughter can't add boyfriend?
Q. Why "significant others" can be included on the partners health insurance but yet my daughter, who has a boyfriend can't put him on hers?
Asked by Sara - Sat Jul 18 03:11:39 2009 - Insurance - 7 Answers - Comments

A. Most employers don't allow "significant others" to be added to health insurance - it's really for same sex domestic partners. If your daughter wants to put boyfriend on her health insurance, she really needs to marry him. If you want marital priveleges, you need marital responsibilities.
