A deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury. It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two. Deep tissue work varies greatly. The term “deep tissue” is often misused to identify a massage that is performed with sustained deep pressure. Deep tissue massage is a separate category of massage therapy, used to treat particular muscular-skeletal disorders and complaints and employs a dedicated set of techniques and strokes to achieve a measure of relief. It should not be confused with “deep pressure” massage, which is one that is performed with sustained strong, occasionally intense pressure throughout an entire full-body session, and that is not performed to address a specific complaint. Deep tissue massage is applied to both the superficial and deep layers of muscles, fascia, and other structures. The sessions are often quite intense as a result of the deliberate, focused work. When a client asks for a massage and uses the term “deep tissue”, more often than not he or she is seeking to receive a full-body session with sustained deep pressure throughout. If a practitioner employs deep tissue techniques on the entire body in one session, it would be next to impossible to perform; it might lead to injury or localized muscle and nerve trauma, thereby rendering the session counterproductive. I am a massage therapy student...I've been attending an intense program for the past 6 months and am just about to graduate. I dont practice as much as an actual LMT but I use my hands, a lot. On top of bodywork at school and in clinics, I also make jewelry and paint in my spare time. Lately I've noticed my wrists hurt...mainly when I extend them. Not really intense pain or anything, but definite soreness and bothersome pain. Any suggestions for self-care or anyone out there with similar experience? I don't want to mess up my career before I start it! Thanks, L. Asked by flabbrgastdNY24 - Fri Dec 8 22:56:36 2006 - Alternative Medicine - 4 Answers - Comments A. I am also a massage Therapy Student. The question or concern was brought up in our courses. One of our teachers is an RN and a LMT. She suggests if you have soreness you need to take a rest and ice the wrist. Because your hands are your future and you must rest in order to take care of yourself. Also, watch your body mechanics. Make sure you are not bending the wrist all the time. Use your body not your wrists. You wrist is usually pretty stationary. Another way to help is doing a pariffin dip. You can do the whole hand or you can paint the pariffin on the wrists only. (I don't know if you have studied pariffin dips, but wrap in seran wrap then in a towl for 10 minutes) You could even get a brace and wear it at night to prevent… [cont.] Answered by lord777ak13 - Sun Dec 10 16:34:14 2006 What can I do to deal with the pain of Plantar Fascia tear and is it possible to have plantar fascitis in one?
Q. foot and a tear in the other foot? I was playing a game of tackle football with some guys at the park and I injured my foot. I went to the doctor and he told me I had a plantar fascia tear. I have been doing streching, icing, heat massage.. everything I can't think of but the pain is still pretty intense most of the time. Sometimes my foot just throbs and aches. I have recently started feeling similar pains in my left foot as well but not nearly as bad. What can I do? The doctors I go to all seem like complete idiots. I have to go to Veteran's Affairs and not the regular hospital. My foot was injured by getting tackled. I think someone landed on the back of my foot. This happened the middle of June and it's the middle of Dec now. Is there… [cont.] Asked by Guy - Sun Dec 17 19:23:52 2006 - Pain & Pain Management - 3 Answers - 1 Comments A. You did not state how the doctor knew there was a tear, I would imagine you had some sort of advanced imaging like an MRI to see this, if not then it is just a guess on the doctors part. The plantar fascia is a band of connective tissue that runs the length of the bottom or the plantar surface of the foot. This tissue is not unlike a tendon and if it is torn it will not come together and heal, like a torn tendon it must be surgically repaired. This may be the reason that you are in so much pain after all this time. The first thing I would do is to make sure of the diagnosis, and then if it is torn, find out what surgical options are open to you. I believe that many of the doctors you see are idiots, many may have graduated at the bottom of… [cont.] Answered by mr.answerman - Sun Dec 17 19:35:33 2006 From Yahoo Answer Search: "intense massage" |
